Why do we need to think critically?

It depends on the "something". I do think it can be hard sometimes, as really thinking critically on something you love may uncover some flaws or other issues you don't really want to think about. But I think it's good, because once you come to terms with those issues you may either realise that the something is not for you, or you will be able to love it even more and with a more holistic view of it :)

What It Means To Think Critically

Critical thinking is among the first causes for change (personal and social), but is a pariah in schools –for no other reason than it conditions the mind to suspect the form and function of everything it sees, including your classroom and everything being taught in it.

We also have a tendency to apply critical thinking only to things we disagree with.

Bowen, D. H., Greene, J. P., & Kisida, B. (2014). Learning to think critically: A visual art experiment. Educational Researcher, 43(1), 37-44. Researchers found that students who participated in an inquiry-based museum field trip used significantly more critical thinking strategies when analyzing an unfamiliar work of art than students who had not visited the art museum. These benefits were concentrated among younger students and those from more disadvantaged backgrounds: those attending schools where the majority of students are eligible for free- or reduced-price lunch, non-white students, those from more rural towns, and those visiting the museum for the first time. In this study, researchers endeavored to find out whether exposure to the arts affects students’ ability to engage in critical thinking. Groups of students were randomly selected to go on a field trip led by trained arts education professionals to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AK; then, these students and students in a who did not visit the museum were given a task that asked them to interpret an unfamiliar work of art. Results showed that exposure to an arts-based educational experience had a positive effect on students’ critical thinking skills. that is useful for occurs when a is combined with Although creativity occurs first in a process of productive thinking, it's best to begin with a solid foundation of critical thinking. Taken together, these definitions of critical thinking set forth the scope and key elements of thought processes involved in providing clinical care. Exactly how critical thinking is defined will influence how it is taught and to what standard of care nurses will be held accountable.

Research on the Disposition toward Critical Thinking

Certainly, we can train ourselves to become better critical thinkers, but it’s also important that we teach these skills to kids. how important this ability is to our success, and yet many feel that we’re doing a This study, however, may lead to educators and parents realizing that these skills are teachable. The implications of a better thinking society are not quantitative, but I do believe they would be extraordinary.
