The research fellowship was awarded to Kreneck for the best research proposal on 20th-century Texas history. His research proposal focuses on the biography of John J. Herrera, a Houston attorney, LULAC Leader, and American civic activist. Kreneck is best known for his major contributions to increasing the manuscript holdings of the Island University. During his time at the Island University, Kreneck was able to acquire surveying records from three generations of the Blucher family, records from the former Nueces County surveyor William W. Green, and concluded the accession of Dr. Hector P. Garcia’s papers before his retirement in 2012.

In either case, this section should testify to the fact that you did enough preparatory work to make sure the project will complement and not duplicate the efforts of other researchers. Start a new page and use the heading "References" or "Bibliography" centered at the top of the page. Cited works should always use a standard format that follows the writing style advised by the discipline of your course [i.e., education=APA; history=Chicago, etc] or that is preferred by your professor. Research Proposal | A History: U.S. Abortion Legalities

This course is intended for Co-term, Master's or Ph.D. level students in Political Science, Sociology, History, and related fields, who are contemplating social science research on non-contemporary topics, especially if they are interested in research on China. The course focuses on methods of research, in particular, how to identify and exploit archival and published sources in a systematic fashion. Particular emphasis will be placed on methods of translating qualitative documentary materials into quantitative datasets or other digital formats. The course will begin with reading selected exemplary publications in the field, most of which are about political conflict in the United States and Europe, and then moves to consider recent efforts to apply these methods to China. We will review the range of Chinese sources that have been used in recent research projects, and others that might be potentially exploitable. Students will then be asked to develop a research proposal that identifies a topic, a potentially exploitable source of historical data, and a plan for research.

How to Write a Research Proposal

Based on these concepts developed in the scientific literature, we will encourage students to develop proposals that link these conceptual frameworks with concrete case studies. Specific research questions may center on the use, maintenance, degradation, and rehabilitation of resources such as land, water, or forest products; on landscape and ecosystem change and its relationship to political, economic, and ideational change; on climate change and its interaction with specific socio-ecosystems; on methodologies of historiography and ecology and how they can enrich each other; on ideas about nature, resources, landscapes, and species, and how these ideas evolve over time; on changing artistic or literary portrayal of human-landscape relations; or on related topics. In addition to furthering our knowledge of the relationships between ecological and socio-political change, we will inevitably learn how to talk to each other across disciplinary boundaries, not only within the social sciences, but between the social sciences and the earth sciences, and between the social sciences and the humanities and arts.
